Feminista Jones

March 29, 2023

Intersectional Feminism and Women’s Empowerment

There’s a belief by some in today’s world that feminism isn’t needed anymore. Yet, “Women and girls continue to face devastating gender-based oppression, and it’s clear the world needs feminism and feminist activism as much as it ever did,” she says. In this keynote, Feminista Jones - author, intersectionality expert, and award-winning writer - reveals the importance of not only embracing feminism but intersectional feminism in the 21st century, where everyone has a seat at the table; and how if everyone works together, they can empower each other to be successful in their personal and professional lives.

Black Heritage Month 2023 Distinguished Lecture Series

February 8, 2023

Featuring Dr. Chike Akua. Educational research has demonstrated that culture is the key – the critical mediating factor in increasing student success for African American students.  However, most African American students matriculate through systems of schooling that omit the unique culture, contributions and accomplishments of Black people. This engaging and interactive presentation connects the legacy of past cultural excellence with strategies and methods students can use to produce excellence today. It provides cutting-edge research and visual documentation of little-known accomplishments and contributions of African and African American people in various fields of study.
